X-PAI Seminar: “From Temperature to Intelligence”

On December 3, 2025, the X-PAI Seminar “From Temperature to Intelligence: AI-Enhanced Thermosensitive QR Systems for Next-Generation Food Supply Chains Quality Management” was held, with Prof. Sam Saguy, Professor Emeritus at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, as speaker.

The seminar was part of the X-PAI project “AI-driven Digital Platform for Dynamic Management of Supply Chains of Perishable Goods,” led by Prof. Marcos A. Neves and Assoc. Prof. Tofael Ahamed (University of Tsukuba) with Prof. Juming Tang (University of Washington).

Quality loss in perishable foods stems mainly from inadequate temperature and time control during distribution. Prof. Saguy introduced thermosensitive QR codes that change colour with temperature history and can be read with a smartphone. Combined with kinetic models of quality change and AI analytics, they predict quality loss in real time, allowing better use of shelf life, safer food and less waste. He closed on the potential to make food and pharmaceutical supply chains more intelligent, transparent and sustainable.
